The plot thickens...

Last week I was talking about how a new chapter brings with it new ideas, and in similar context my update this week sees another chapter come to an end and an intriguing twist to the story of Belus. The plot thickens...

I have often said that I'm never sure where my writing will lead me. I start with an idea, a premise, that I think takes me from point A, to point B. The trouble is when your imagination gets to work by the time you finish writing you end up at an unknown destination, a mystery point C. So it was when I wrote Dragon King and similarly, Olgrun. The fact that each time I write I potentially end up somewhere I didn't expect has always been a good thing. Even I don't know how my stories will end. I have a very broad brush thread and allow my imagination to take over the driving seat, the results often lead to a more thrilling story, a thickening plot and plenty of mystery to keep the reader wanting more.

This week I've introduced something new, something that will be critical to the novel and I now have to let my imagination ferment on the ideas I have explored thus far. Next week will see the start of another new chapter and only time will tell if I continue with this thread or leave it for the moment and jump into the story at another place and time, perhaps introducing more characters or events. Mmm, we'll have to see, at the moment I tend to be writing on a Thursday or Friday, I'm leaving it until later in the week so that I have 3 or 4 days to reflect upon the previous week's work. This, so far, has proven to beneficial.

Progress is still relatively slow, I'm still achieving my minimum targets of at least 1000 words per week, so I'm on track. I just can't rush this or I'll spoil something, or worse still, lose the desire to continue. My promise to keep going at a minimal pace seems to work, it has worked for 2 novels to date, so I don't see any reason to change anything.

That's it for now. I wonder what next week will bring? A reminder that The Chronicles of Niru (Dragon King and Belus) are already available via Amazon and the Kindle app. Happy reading everyone and speak to you again soon.😊
